Responsibilities

How This Works

Master the Fundamentals (Gold Seal Instructor Lead)

From the first day in your apprenticeship program, you’ll start developing the professional, technical, and personal skills needed for success at Johanna Foods. You’ll learn the fundamentals of being a great utilities mechanical operator and industry professional. These are real SOP driven training classes and will translate into practical, real-world skills to get your career underway.

Apply Them Hands-On (Hands on practical OJT)

We all know that we are most effectively trained when things can be applied immediately in a hands-on environment. Apprenticeship Trainees will apply the SOP lessons to the real-world plant, training under licensed operators. There is a requirement of 120 hours of work experience with the high pressure boilers and 6 month work experience with our refrigeration systems before taking the state exam. Here you’ll put some of the practical skills learned in your SOP training to use.

Graduate a Licensed Engineer (Enroll and pass your NJ State License examinations)

In the last stage of the Apprenticeship Program, you will begin preparing for the New Jersey State Black Seal High Pressure exam & Blue Seal Refrigeration examinations. You will enroll with the Training Center and complete 1 license training course at a time. The Training Center courses cover the various subjects that will be on the state exam. Students will have access to an Online Study Center, which aids in learning the materials as effectively as possible. Flash cards, practice quizzes, and instructor guidance will provide you everything you need to pass the test.

After work experience is achieved in each area you are eligible to take the following NJ State examinations:

  • Black Seal High Pressure Boiler Operator (120 hours work experience)
  • Blue Seal Refrigeration Engineer 2-C Toxic (6 Months of work experience)

Qualifications

Experience with boiler or refrigeration equipment is not required to enroll in this program. The Apprentice will receive their work experience during the program by completing hands-on job duties while working under the direction of our Licensed Engineers.

The program requirements are:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Achieve a 25 or greater on Mechanical Aptitude Test
  • Passing a standard Interview
  • Compliance to Personal Conduct Standards
