Job Summary:

The Transportation Manager plans, directs, and coordinates the transportation operations within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles and drivers to ensure for on time arrival.
  • Manage Hours of Service for Company drivers utilizing Electronic Logs.
  • Demonstrated expert with Electronic Log systems
  • Maintain relationships with Carriers. Source new carriers and negotiate rates.
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of operations and department in order to obtain use of equipment, facilities, and human resources.
  • Conduct investigations to determine root causes of transportation accidents, incidents and complaints. Identify actions to improve or avoid future occurrences.
  • Prepare management recommendations, such as fee and rate changes or schedule changes.
  • Conduct Driver/ Employee training sessions semiannually.
  • Ensure Company is complaint with all Federal, State and Local Departments of Transportations policies and regulations.
  • Plan, organize and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with the company requirements.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, and government regulations
  • Ensure compliance with Company Safe Quality Foods requirements.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans for increasing margins and improving services.
  • Monitor, report and improve department’s performance and cost objectives.

Qualifications

  • Degree Preferred. Supply Chain or similar field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in transportation.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
  • High level of interpersonal skills needed to communicate with internal and external customers in a calm, courteous and professional manner
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as Excel, Managing files and records and other office procedures.
  • Demonstrate good time management, prioritization, coordination, critical thinking, active learning, judgment, negotiation, complex problem solving, and service orientation.
  • Able to Multitask

    • General computer experience
